Requests
How does TowXpress work?
You send one request for a boost, a lockout, a flat tire or fuel, by phone or online. We text it to independent operators near you who hold Ontario tow certificates. The first who can come takes it, and you get their name, number, ETA and price by text.
Does TowXpress arrange tows?
No. Ontario's towing law lets only certified tow operators offer or arrange a tow, so TowXpress handles roadside help only. For a tow, call a certified tow operator directly: our towing page shows how to find one and what to check.
How fast will someone come?
It depends on where you are, the time of day and the weather, so we won't promise a number. The operator who takes your job texts you their ETA, and if nobody has taken it within a few minutes, a person at TowXpress calls you.
What if no operator can come?
We tell you, quickly, so you can call someone else. You never owe TowXpress anything for a request nobody took.
I am on the 401, the QEW or another 400-series highway.
In the GTA those highways are restricted towing zones: only the province's contracted company may help there, so TowXpress can't send anyone. Call 511 if you are safe, or 911 if you are in a live lane or in danger.
Do I need an app?
No. Everything comes by text message from the TowXpress line.
Which areas do you cover?
Toronto, Peel, York Region, Halton and Durham: the Greater Toronto Area, off the provincial highways. Operators choose the areas they serve, so a request goes to the ones near you.
Can I cancel?
Yes. Reply to our text or call. If an operator is already on the way, tell us right away.
Prices and payment
How much does it cost?
Sending a request is free. The operator who takes your job texts you their price before any work starts, and that is what you pay for the work.
How do I pay?
You pay the operator for the work, at the price confirmed before it started. Ask how they take payment when they call.
Will I get a receipt?
Yes. Ask the operator for an itemized invoice and a receipt.
Are there hidden fees?
Ask the operator to include everything (fuel, parts, after-hours) in the price they text you. If something is added later that you did not agree to, tell us.
Safety and your rights
What should I do while I wait?
Stay somewhere safe with your hazards on. If traffic is close and it feels unsafe to get out, stay inside with your seatbelt on. If you're in danger or anyone is hurt, call 911.
Are your operators certified?
We only work with operators who hold an Ontario tow operator certificate, and we check it, with their insurance, before they get a single job. You can check any operator yourself on the province's registry.
What are my rights if I need a tow?
Ontario has rules on certificates, consent, rates, payment and invoices. We set them out in plain words, with links to the province's pages, on our rights page.
Something went wrong with my job.
Reply to our text or call us. We will follow up with the operator, and if they do not put it right, we stop sending them jobs.
Operators
I run a tow truck. How do I join?
Apply online in a few minutes. We check your certificate and insurance and text you when you are approved.
Do I have to take every job?
No. You see the job first and only take the ones that suit you.
How do jobs reach me?
By text from the TowXpress line, with one link. Tap it to see the job and accept it, or reply YES. The first to accept gets it.
What does it cost?
Joining is free, and your first 60 days of jobs are free. After that you pick: $15 for each roadside job you accept, or $79 a month for as many as you take. No contract, and you can switch or leave any time.
How do I pay TowXpress?
After your free 60 days, we text you a short summary each month: the jobs you accepted and what you owe on your plan. Jobs you gave back, jobs the customer cancelled and jobs that turned into a tow are never counted.
Why roadside jobs only?
Ontario's towing law bans paying or being paid for tow referrals (TSSEA s. 29), so TowXpress sends roadside jobs only. If a job turns into a tow, that is between you and the customer, under your own certificate, consent form and rates. TowXpress takes nothing for it.
Need help right now?
Call, or send a request. It takes about a minute.
